Artist’s Statement:
In this work, I sought to capture the shimmering threshold between history and myth. Painted in the modern impressionist style, Amore Sospeso nel Tempo focuses on the golden light of the Neapolitan coast—a light that seems to cling to the crumbling stone of Palazzo Donn’Anna as if trying to preserve a memory.
The palace is a monument to a love interrupted. According to local legend, the beautiful Donna Anna Carafa fell into a deep rivalry with her niece, Mercedes, over the affections of a Spanish nobleman. After Mercedes vanished under mysterious circumstances, the nobleman fled, leaving Donna Anna to wither away in her unfinished palace, and her heart within its walls.
Through the use of light yellow and gold pigments, I have tried to evoke the “Golden Hour”—that fleeting moment where the past feels present. The bold, fractured brushstrokes represent the salt-touched facade, suggesting that while the stone may decay, the spirit of love longing remains “suspended in time.” Like the palace itself, this love story has no ending; it remains an eternal, gilded vigil over the Tyrrhenian Sea.
